Institutional Foundations of Trust: Sociolegal Perspectives

Abstract This article discusses how institutions, including the law, can artificially produce trust between people and organizations through imposition of standards behavior, procedures competencies. Building on rational choice theory, institutionalism constructivism, this study systematizes theoretical empirical findings in three ideal types. The types have been called “calculative trust”, “institutional “active trust”.
